Susan Salyer Wilson passed away peacefully on December 23, 2025 in her home in Atlanta, Georgia, at the age of 75.
She was born February 18, 1950, in Jacksonville, Florida to Hubert and Nell Salyer. She lived briefly in Knoxville, Tennessee, before moving to Atlanta, Georgia in 1961. She graduated from Briarcliff High School in Atlanta and then Queens College in Charlotte, North Carolina. Susan went on to later obtain her Masters and Specialist degrees in Education.
Susan began her teaching career at Henderson High School, where she taught history and coached the drill team. It was there that she met the love of her life, James “Jim” Wilson. Susan continued her career in education as an elementary gifted education teacher at Grayson Elementary School, where she made a lasting impact on countless students and was honored as Grayson Elementary’s Teacher of the Year.
Susan had a love of travel and planned trips that took her throughout Europe, to all 50 states and to many of America’s national parks. Susan and Jim loved spending time at Anna Maria Island and Hilton Head. She was an avid reader, a lover of music and Broadway, and a passionate student of history. Susan was involved with the Queens College Alumni Board, Alpha Gamma Delta sorority and served on the Briarcliff High School reunion committee.
Susan was a member of The Cathedral of St. Philip, where she and Jim married. They recently celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Hubert and Nell Salyer; her in-laws, Bob and Margie Wilson and her nephew, Robert Shane Wilson. Susan is survived by her beloved husband, Jim Wilson. She is also survived by her daughter, Stephanie Kokabi (Andrew) of Atlanta, Georgia and her grandchildren, Benjamin and William Kokabi as well as many cousins and lifelong friends. The family would like to thank the caregivers and care manager that helped Susan in her final year.
Funeral services will be held January 30, 2026 at 10:00 am at the Cathedral of St. Philip with a reception to follow at the church’s Court of Gratitude. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Remerge Giving Grace or the American Cancer Society.
