Susan Lynn Ahern, 54, of Peachtree Corners, Georgia, passed away Sunday, May 19, following years of proving her doctors wrong and living fully with everything she had for each day. Susan was predeceased by her father, John Baer, and by her grandparents, Rafe and Margaret Baer, and Leo and Louise Scott. She leaves behind her loving and devoted husband of 30 years, Michael Ahern, and their son, Nicholas Ahern and his wife, Anna Wickham. In addition, she leaves behind her beloved mother, Jane Baer; her sister Lesley Chambless and Lesley’s husband, Larry Holfelder and her children, Grace Chambless and Benjamin Chambless; and her brother, Preston Baer and his wife, Welma Baer.
Susan was born and raised in Atlanta. She graduated from Chamblee High School in 1987 and then from Kennesaw State University in 1991 with a degree in early education. After the birth of her son, Nicholas, she was proud to be a teacher in his classroom. She later began a career in banking, where she ultimately rose to become a senior vice-president of operations and compliance for the Private Bank of Buckhead & Decatur. Susan’s number one priority, though, was always her husband and son. She built a beautiful, welcoming home and filled it with home-cooked food, laughter and love. Her sense of humor was legendary, delighting everyone from her family and friends to the neighborhood grocer. Susan was known for being forthright in her words and wise in her counsel to friends and family. She had a knack for turning complexity into simplicity. She was a member of the CHS TA’s, a vocal advocate for organ donation and a mother of many rescue dogs. She is already deeply missed by all who love her.
A celebration of life will be announced at a later date. In lieu of flowers, her family welcomes donations in her honor given to Lifeline Animal Project at lifelineanimal.org or Donate Life America at donatelife.net.
