With our deepest sorrow, the Abreu Lahoz family announces the passing of Sergio Andres Abreu Del Monte, our adored father, beloved husband, doting grandfather, unconditional brother, incomparable uncle, tireless coach, teacher and mentor to an entire generation of athletes and students.
Sergio passed away peacefully at the age of 68 surrounded by his relatives in the city of Atlanta, Georgia, USA, after several health problems, leaving behind his wife Carmen, his daughters Nicaudy, Dayna, and Anell, his grandchildren Sergio, Emilia, and Daniela and Alicia, his siblings Maria del Carmen, Jose Alberto and Ramon, his mother-in-law, son-in-law, nephews, and brothers-in-law.
Holder of the distinction of Glory of Dominican Sports, Sergio Abreu was a Dominican Republic national basketball coach on several occasions, both for the women's and men's teams, with whom he represented the country in various international matches in countries such as the United States, Puerto Rico, Panama, Argentina, Brazil, Mexico, Venezuela, Cuba, among others; being recognized as Sports Leader of the Year in 14 occasions; seven of them by the National District Basketball Association in the Dominican Republic.
Sergio also was a physical education teacher for over 30 years at the Colegio Santa Teresita later renamed Minetta Roques.
