Sandra Smith Silver, age 80, Sandy Springs, Georgia died September 5, 2025
Sandy began sewing as a child and carried the experience she gained into her adult career. She worked for many years in retail, often at fabric stores like Hancock Fabrics. She began a side business, Sandy Sews, using the colorful remnants she obtained to make one-of-a-kind custom garments for family, friends, and customers, all bearing the label “A Sandy Silver Original.” Prior to her retail career, Sandy worked for several years as a medical secretary, despite having no formal medical education or training. She gained her knowledge of medical terminology through self-study of various medical journals and dictionaries.
Sandy believed in exercise and physical fitness and was an active participant in the Silver Sneakers workout program following her retirement. When the COVID pandemic closed all in-person classes, Sandy continued her daily workouts in her sewing room via televised classes, leaving the rest of her family in her wake. Sandy also loved music and dancing. Whenever she heard a song that she could dance to, she would grab an available partner and start moving to the beat. If no one else was available, she’d dance solo to the delight of those who watched her. Sandy’s zest for life was genuine and infectious. Whenever she met someone new, she’d greet them with a big smile as if they were lifelong friends.
