Rosemarie Smith Obituary

Rosemarie Smith, a devoted mother, grandmother, and community servant, passed away peacefully on December 14th, 2024, at home surrounded by her daughters, sons-in-law, and grandchildren after a brave battle with brain cancer. She was 83 years old.

Born Rosemarie Hastings on June 23rd, 1941, in Buffalo, New York, she was the daughter of Henry and Rose Hastings. She grew up in Cheektowaga, New York, where she attended Cleveland Hill High School. During her high school years, Rosemarie was an active member of the Junior Service Club, dedicated to community service, and also participated in the Zeta Sigma Epsilon Sorority, Gamma Chapter, fostering lifelong friendships and connections. After high school, her father relocated the family to California, where Rosemarie met Clifford Smith.

Rosemarie and Clifford later married and had two daughters, Debbie (married to John Pitigliano) and DiAnn (married to Ed Sanchez). Rosemarie’s family was the center of her world, and she found immense joy in her role as a mother and grandmother. She adored her grandchildren, Dominic and Isabella, who brought her much happiness throughout her life.

Rosemarie’s professional career was marked by trailblazing achievements. She became the first female building inspector in the state of California, and after earning her associate’s degree while raising her daughters, she advanced to a leadership role in the Department of Housing in Sacramento. She retired after over 35 years of dedicated service.

In addition to her professional accomplishments, Rosemarie was passionate about giving back to her community. She volunteered with the Sacramento Zoo and later continued her volunteer work with her Church after relocating to Georgia.

After her retirement, Rosemarie moved in with DiAnn and Ed to be closer to her grandchildren, living in Minnesota and Georgia, where she cherished the time spent with her family.

Rosemarie’s love of animals, nature, and travel kept her busy in her retirement years, but it was her devotion to her family and her willingness to help others that left an indelible mark on all who knew her.

She will be deeply missed by her daughters, sons-in-law, grandchildren, and all who had the privilege of knowing her.

A funeral mass will be held on Friday December 27th, 2024, at 2:00 pm at All Saints Catholic Church 2443 Mt Vernon Rd, Dunwoody, GA 30338.
