Robert (Bob) Turner Hamilton

A gentleman until the end, Bob Hamilton drew his last quiet breath on August 24, 2026, closing a match that was well-played both on and off the court.
Robert Turner (Bob) Hamilton was born on January 27th, 1945, in Kansas City, Missouri. His family relocated to Atlanta, where he grew to fear chickens and love The Varsity. He attended Auburn University from 1963 to 1967, serving as president of his chapter of Kappa Sigma fraternity. Following college, he served in the U.S. Navy from 1968 to 1971, during which time he cleverly navigated naval life from solid ground.
His passion for service continued throughout the rest of his life. He entered the real estate business in 1971, kicking off a career that would prove both fulfilling and perfectly suited to his patient, meticulous nature. He served as 1984 president of the DeKalb Board of Realtors, 1990 president of the Georgia Association of Realtors, CEO of the Georgia Association of Realtors 1995 to 2009, chaired several committees of the National Association of Realtors, and served on the Board of Directors of both Georgia MLS and FMLS. Bob was a real estate broker, investor, property manager, and consultant. He was an active member of St. Martin in the Fields Episcopal Church where he served two terms on the Vestry, served as Treasurer, served on the Endowment Fund Board of Trustees, served as an usher team captain, as Head Usher, and as Head Teller.
When not serving others, Bob enjoyed serving tennis balls to his beloved ALTA teammates. He also enjoyed vacationing with friends at Litchfield Beach, planning elaborate itineraries for travel abroad, researching genealogy, and watching movies, live music, and theater.
Bob was a doting father to his two daughters, Sydney and Landon. He lovingly built them a backyard tree house and taught them how to invest their babysitting money in second mortgages. Many a yawn-inducing dinner was spent discussing the merits of investing in debt. Fortunately, he balanced these with hundreds of puns, movie quotes, and trips to the theater.
Bob is survived by his wife of 53 years Susan Giles Hamilton, daughters Sydney Hamilton (Nate Huyler) of Wheat Ridge, Colorado, and Landon Trainor (David Trainor) of Boise, Idaho, brothers Jack Hamilton of Dunwoody, Georgia, and Bill Hamilton of Lakemont, Georgia, and four grandchildren William Trainor, Cian Trainor, Wood Huyler, and Betty Huyler.
Bob was the opposite of the typical middle child, being driven and highly organized with an unmatched attention to detail. In 2014, Bob provided his family with a document he artfully titled “Things You Need To Know When I Die.” While we teased him endlessly, the truth is that this meticulous tome has been a godsend, right down to the request for a short funeral service, which is taking place at St. Martin in the Fields Episcopal Church on Sunday, September 13 at 2:00 p.m. The reception in Gable Hall will take place immediately after the burial in St. Martin's Prayer Garden.
