Rick Rasche, beloved husband, father, brother, and friend, passed away on July 1, 2024, in Tucker, GA. He was 81 years old.
Rick is survived by his devoted wife of 45 years, Carolyn Block Rasche, his sons David (Cindy) and Peter (Deborah), his daughter Kat (Joe), his sister Jan Remar, his granddaughter Grace, and nieces, nephews, and grandnieces and grandnephews.
For 35 years, Rick called Tucker, GA, his home, where he established himself both professionally and personally. As a clinical psychologist in private practice, Rick dedicated his career to helping others navigate the complexities of the human mind and spirit. His compassionate nature and unwavering commitment to his patients earned him the respect and gratitude of many in his professional community.
Rick dedicated years of service both to the Georgia Psychological Association, where he served as Chair of Division E (Licensed Psychologists) and to the American Society of Clinical Hypnosis, where he served as membership chair for numerous years. His contributions to the field extended much beyond his practice and his formal organizational duties, influencing the professional development of countless colleagues.
In addition to his purely professional pursuits, Rick possessed keen interests in extrasensory perception, spiritualism, and the afterlife. His curiosity and open-minded approach to these topics enriched his understanding of the human experience and endeared him to friends and colleagues alike.
Rick was also an avid runner, training throughout his adult life, until illness would no longer allow it. After completing several marathons as a young man, he focused running for his health alone, except that for 32 consecutive years he proudly entered and finished the Peachtree Road Race. Rick’s dedication to running demonstrated just one aspect of his life-long commitment to his health and further served as a source of remarkable physical strength and endurance throughout the period of his declining physical well-being. Also among his fond memories and physical achievements was a successful climb to the peak of Mt. Rainer to celebrate his 50th birthday.
In addition to his professional and athletic accomplishments, Rick was a talented artist, whose creativity brought beauty and insight into the world around him. His artistic expressions were cherished by those who knew him.
Rick was a man with a loving and gentle spirit. He was deeply in love with his wife Carolyn, the two of whom fit perfectly together. He was a kind and attentive listener. He was a caring father. Despite the challenges of disease, friends and family remarked that he maintained his sharp wit until the end. Those who spent time with Rick in recent years witnessed his indomitable spirit; even as the pace of conversation slowed, he did not lose his quick wit and always remained full of joy, intellectual curiosity, and compassion for others.
Rick Rasche will be remembered fondly for his kind heart, sense of humor, expansive thinking, and unwavering dedication to his family, profession, and community. His legacy of compassion and service will continue to inspire and uplift those who were fortunate enough to have known him.
Rick Rasche's departure leaves a void in the lives of all who knew him, but his memory will forever remain in our hearts.
A memorial service to celebrate Rick's life will be planned for a later date.
