Rae Anne Harkness, 53, of Decatur, Georgia, passed away on November 8, 2025. She was born on December 1, 1971, in Cincinnati, Ohio, and grew up in Atlanta, Georgia, where she built her life surrounded by family, creativity, and community.
Rae Anne was preceded in death by her mother, Judith Montgomery, and her beloved son, Almotis Harkness, whom she carried in her heart every day.
She is survived by her father, Daniel Montgomery; her daughter, Autumn Smith; her son, Levi Fleming; and her brother, Gregory Montgomery. She is also remembered by many other family members, loved ones, and friends who will continue to hold her memory close.
Rae Anne retired from the DeKalb County Tax Commissioner’s Office, where she was known for her reliability, kindness, and the way she treated coworkers like family.
A deeply creative spirit, Rae Anne poured love into everything she touched. She enjoyed DIY arts and crafts, painted intricate designs on rocks, created artwork with stamps, and even built her own rain barrels. She loved gardening and proudly grew muscadines, learning to make her own wine, which she bottled and labeled with care. Her home was always filled with color, creativity, and warmth.
Rae Anne also adored her cats, who brought her joy and companionship. She was known for her generous and giving heart—always willing to help anyone in need without a second thought. Her kindness was quiet but powerful, and she gave freely, simply because it was who she was.
Those who knew Rae Anne will remember her as warm, resilient, artistic, and deeply loving. Her life was a testament to the beauty of crafting, nurturing, and caring with one’s whole heart.
A funeral service to honor and celebrate her life will be held on Friday, November 14, 2025, at 11:00 AM at Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Decatur, Georgia.
