Peter S.K. Yeung passed away gently at home on August 18, 2021, with his devoted wife, Barbara Lee Yeung, at his side. Peter began his life voyage in Hong Kong, on February 11, 1927. He came to the United States at age 16. He attended Webb Preparatory School and then was later graduated from his beloved Pomona College with a degree in music.
He married Mary Patricia McKenney and, together, they welcomed four daughters. After they later divorced, Peter married Linda Hokanson, who passed away in 1984. He married Barbara Lee Chen on September 19, 1988; they had 33 joyful years together.
Peter was predeceased by his parents, two brothers and one sister, and his first and second wives.
Peter was a brilliant musician. He played violin with the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra for many years. Affectionately known as a “Builder of Things” to his closest friends and colleagues, he became a self-taught, innovative, and highly acclaimed architect, passing the architectural boards with no formal education in architecture. He established a firm in Atlanta, became nationally known for his designs, and earned the distinction of Architect Emeritus as one of the oldest living architects in Atlanta.
Peter’s first-rate mind and creative talent led him to be equally successful and accomplished in two separate and distinct careers. He always worked hard, but he was also an exuberant celebrant of life. He said an emphatic, “Yes!” to all of life’s joys and wonders. He was a passionate world traveler, a warm and wise counselor, a deeply loved and respected husband, father, and grandfather.
Three passions dominated his life: Family, friendship, and food. In addition to Barbara, he is survived by his four daughters: Ellyn Yeung, Audrey Yeung, Olivia Yeung, and Andrea (Marc) Burch. In addition, he is survived by four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; a stepson, Brian (Stacye) Chen and their children; and a nephew, Eric (Annie) Lee and their children. Peter is also survived and mourned by a vast network of friends. His friendships spanned continents and were always close and enduring.
As a dedicated foodie, Peter was always thinking about his next nosh. He loved authentic Chinese food, sushi, and barbecue best of all. Peter was also enthusiastic about reading and life-long learning, listening to and playing great music, tennis, sailing, and the Atlanta Falcons. For those who would like to honor his memory, the family requests that you “Pay it forward” with a random act of kindness in Peter’s name.
