Margaret Elizabeth Allison (Margot), devoted wife, mother, Nana and friend, passed away on the 31st of October, 2024.
Margot was born in Glasgow, Scotland in 1937 to parents she adored, Helen and Stanley Cairns. Shortly after they wed, Margot followed the love of her life, Bill, to Toronto, Canada, where they raised their four children, Lori, Robert, Peter and David. In Toronto, she was actively involved in the kids’ schools and extracurricular activities yet still found time to volunteer with Women’s College Hospital and the neighborhood nursery school.
When his job took him to Atlanta, Bill and Margot moved their family and re-established themselves in a new community again. She and her friend Joyce launched an antiques business that provided her the opportunity to travel widely in pursuit of the next “great buy”. When not traveling the world or volunteering at Our House of Atlanta, Margot doted on her grandchildren. She was their Nana, the grandparent who always had a cuddle or treat to offer and who seemed to have forgotten every rule she applied to her own kids. Margot was a gracious hostess who gathered many around her table with her skills in the kitchen . She enriched the lives of all who knew her in all the communities she called home.
Margot’s dementia progressed until she was unable to care for herself and Bill and they moved to Sunrise Senior Living of Decatur. During the six years she was there, she kept moving while her mind faded. Her family is grateful for the love and care provided by the staff there.
Margot was predeceased by Bill and their daughter, Lori. She is survived by her sons and son-in-law, John, their families and her sister Kit, whom she loved dearly.
Her family is holding a private service for Margot.
