Lois Housman Kahler, 95, of Atlanta, Georgia, passed peacefully from this life on April 16, 2025. She was born in Nyack, New York, on July 23, 1929, to the late Ralph and Elizabeth Housman. In 1947, she married Ralph Kahler, and together they moved to Albany, Georgia, where they raised nine children.
Lois was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and loyal friend. She was a longtime member of St. Teresa’s Catholic Church in Albany from 1949 to 1998. After relocating to Atlanta, she became a devoted member of All Saints Catholic Church. Throughout her life, Lois remained committed to faith, volunteerism, and service. As a dedicated community volunteer, she also gave her time and energy to the mission of Birthright, providing compassionate care and essential resources to expectant mothers and newborns in need.
In 1988, as a member of the St. Teresa’s Council of Catholic Women in Albany, she was named Catholic Woman of the Year and Diocesan Woman of the Year for the Diocese of Savannah. Later, in 1995, she was invited to Toronto, Canada, where she was recognized for her dedication to Birthright International.
In Albany, she was employed by Bank of America (formerly known as C&S Bank) from 1969 until her retirement, advancing from the role of bank teller to operations officer.
Lois was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; her son, Robert Kahler; her daughter-in-law, Joanna Kahler; three brothers, Ralph, Donald, and Michael Housman; and three sisters, Elizabeth Scott, Sara LaVee, and Joan Lafasciano.
She is survived by her children: Lois Rooney (Ronald), Elizabeth McCall (Phillip), Cecelia Kahler, William Kahler (Cheryl), Stephen Kahler (Caroline), Matthew Kahler, Anita Kahler, and Walter Kahler. She is also survived by her sister, Barbara Starkey, and her sister-in-law, Delores Housman, as well as fourteen grandchildren, thirty-two great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren.
A committal service was held at Andersonville National Cemetery.
