Linda Diane Effron passed away on December 17, 2025, at the age of 84.
Linda was the only daughter of Hilda and Nathan Nisenson and grew up in Knoxville, Tennessee, where her father owned a pawn shop. She attended the University of Tennessee before moving to New York City, where she met Michael (“Mike”) Effron. They married in 1968 and later divorced in 1990.
Linda is survived by her two children, Neil Effron (Lisa) and Rachel Effron Sharma, and by three grandchildren, Isabelle Effron, Maya Effron, and Rhea Sharma. During her marriage, Linda lived in Poughkeepsie, New York. In 1991, she relocated to Atlanta, Georgia, where she resided for the remainder of her life.
Linda was a lifelong member of Hadassah; she took great pride in her involvement and commitment to the organization. She had a deep love of fashion and jewelry and enjoyed beading as a creative hobby. Giving came naturally to Linda—she delighted in finding the perfect gift and was always eager to help friends and family in any way she could.
Linda loved cooking and baking, and every holiday season she would give out tins of her “nut cookies” (pecan bars) and “lemon cookies” to everyone she knew which she spent days baking and freezing; they were fantastic. When asked for the recipe, even by her own children, she replied that it was a “secret recipe.” She later forgot the recipe due to memory loss, but she did not succeed in keeping it a secret forever; luckily, we discovered it in an old binder.
She loved to travel and explored many places around the world. As the family historian, Linda preserved documents, photographs, and records, ensuring that family memories would endure for future generations.
Later in life, Linda lived with Alzheimer’s disease. Throughout her illness, she fought to maintain her independence. Though she gradually lost many memories, she never forgot who she was or who her children were. Her strong, independent spirit remained intact, and she lived life on her terms. Most importantly, she never stopped loving her family.
