With faith in the Resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ, we announce the repose of the servant of God, Lesya Lisnichuk (Baptized Anastasia), who fell asleep in the Lord on May 22, 2026, at the age of 90.
Anastasia was born on November 13, 1935, in the small Ukrainian town of Shepetivka. She was the cornerstone of her family, creating a home filled with warmth, laughter, and abundant love. Her father, Theodor, and mother, Marya, were respected teachers in their town, known for their professionalism, kindness, and devotion to the children entrusted to their care.
Anastasia was the eldest child in the family. Her younger sister, Nadezda, was 7 years younger. From the age of 13, Lesya carried significant responsibilities in the home, caring for livestock, tending the garden, and looking after her sister whenever their parents were away for annual teacher training sessions.
She endured the severe hardships of the Second World War. Only six years old when the war began in 1941, she witnessed the Nazi occupation of Ukraine within a matter of months. Her father was drafted into the Soviet Army and was briefly taken prisoner before eventually escaping and returning home. During the chaos of the war, her mother, believing her husband had been killed, once her mother and young Anastasia were searching among the fallen soldiers near their town for her father’s body. By God’s mercy, Theodor survived and returned home safely.
During the occupation, Theodor worked as a veterinarian and became a source of help and protection for many families in the region. Since livestock often meant the difference between life and starvation, he courageously risked his own life by reporting animals as diseased in order to prevent them from being confiscated for the needs of Nazi Germany. Through his actions, many families were spared hunger and suffering.
Anastasia and her family also survived the terrible famine years of 1932–1933, thanks largely to the family’s single cow, without which they likely would have perished.
Anastasia later earned a master’s degree in economics and faithfully served in the Ministry of Economy of Ukraine as a Head of Department until her retirement at the age of 60.
Anastasia has shown example of strong believer and prayer person, she was very loving mother to her family and kids Farther Alexander and Tatyana. And was kind and loving to all of us.
May God grant the Kingdom of Heaven and Memory Eternal to our beloved Anastasia.
The family requests prayers for the newly departed servant of God, that the Lord grant her rest with the saints where there is neither sickness, no sorrow, nor sighing, but life everlasting.
