Leslie Thompson Long ,81, of Tucker, Georgia passed away on Sunday, January 11, 2026 in Decatur, Georgia.
She was born on August 7, 1944, to Sloan and Mary Jane (nee Hopkins) Willis in Baltimore, Maryland. She moved to Atlanta in 1971 and lived in the Atlanta area until her death. She was preceded in death by her parents, Sloan Willis, Mary Jane Hopkins Thompson and Allen Warren Thompson. She leaves behind her son, Robert Allen Thompson (Kelly) and daughter, Stacy Anne Long, and her sisters Janie Avant (Jimmy), Cindy DeMersman (Tom) and her brother, Rogers Thompson (Debe), her grandsons Jack David Warren Thompson and Alexander Robert Thompson, as well as numerous, much-beloved nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. In addition to family, Leslie’s best friend, Diane Domit was a beautiful light in her life.
Leslie’s pride and joy were her son, Rob and her daughter, Stacy. She was their biggest cheerleader and defender. They were perfect in her eyes. The arrival of her two grandsons, Jack and Alex Thompson, gave her the opportunity to be “Gram”, and she treasured her time with them. She always believed that they were the best Grandsons “on the planet", and they could do anything in life.
In addition to her family, Leslie had a passion for helping others. She was very involved in her church, Holy Cross Catholic Church. Leslie’s true calling evolved during her work at St. Vincent DePaul, beginning as a dedicated volunteer 30 years ago, culminating in her work as the Store Manager for the St. Vincent de Paul Thrift Store in Duluth for 12 years. She was passionate in her role as Store Manager, and she truly believed her job was to help as many people as she could. This was where she found the most fulfillment.
A funeral Mass for Leslie Long will be held at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Atlanta, GA on Wednesday January 21st at 11:00am. Visitation will begin at 10:00am at the Church.
