Sadly, our beloved, Katharine Allan (“Duffy”) Brown, passed away on December 24, 2024, in Roswell,
Georgia at the age of 79. Duffy was born on May 6, 1945, to Walter and Rachel Allan in Summerville,
South Carolina. After graduating from Summerville High School, she attended the University of South Carolina, where she majored in English.
Duffy’s first love was art. Duffy was an accomplished and successful artist, working in various mediums,
including metals, oils, clay and woodblock printing. Duffy loved to make things beautiful, whether it be
in her studio or in her garden in Greenville, South Carolina, where she lived most of her life before
moving to Georgia in 2021. A great friend to many and a wonderful wife, sister, mother and
grandmother, Duffy was witty, loving, determined, honest and loyal. She was an avid reader, lived
intentionally and fully and will be sorely missed by everyone who knew her.
Duffy is survived by her husband, Doug Brown; son, Glenn Brown; daughter-in-law, Deborah Brown;
grandchildren: Ransom Brown, Alec Brown and Annika Brown, and sister Eleanor McPhail and was
predeceased by her brother, James Allan. Duffy also leaves behind a brokenhearted, supportive group
of relatives, including nephews, nieces and countless friends.
To honor Duffy’s life, her family will hold a memorial service on Friday, January 10, 2025, at 2:00 p.m. at John Knox Presbyterian Church, located at 35 Shannon Drive, Greenville, South Carolina 29615, with a reception to follow.
