Joseph Edward Ryan

Joseph Ryan, 78, of Atlanta, GA, passed away peacefully at home on August 20, 2026.

Joseph was born on November 12, 1947 in Perth Amboy, New Jersey to Joseph L. and Irene Ryan. He grew up in Cranford, attended St. Peter’s Prep, and earned a business degree from St. Peter’s College.

Joseph married Alice Norine McGonegal, of Roselle Park, in September of 1970. Following their marriage, they moved to California, where Joseph served in the US Army and was stationed at the Presidio in San Francisco.

Joseph began his career in healthcare systems management and technology while in the Army and later earned a Masters Degree from the University of Southern California. His career was highlighted by his contributions to HBO & Company, which grew to be one of Georgia’s most successful companies. Later, his entrepreneurial talent led him to creating software, founding businesses, and providing consultation services to leaders in the industry.

Joseph’s considerable talents were evident in his intellect, career, woodworking, writing, but his greatest work was that as husband, father and grandfather. His leadership in his family and support of his family’s successes created three generations of contributions through the fields of business, education, and conservation.

Joseph is survived by his wife Alice, children Dave, Noreen, and Dan (Sylvia), and grandchildren Walker, Taylor, Soledad, and Kayly. He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Irene Ryan, and his sister, Mary Irene Dudley.

A committal service will be held on Tuesday, September 1, 2026 at 9:30 a.m. at Georgia National Cemetery, 2025 Mount Carmel Church Lane, Canton, GA 30114 with a reception following at Williamson Brothers Canton, 1600 Marietta Hwy, Canton, GA 30114.
