Gerald Arthur Scheidt died Saturday, October 30, 2021 in Sandy Springs Georgia. He was a long time resident of Dunwoody, GA. He was born October 5,1923 in Buffalo New York. Gerald attended the University of Buffalo, on the GI Bill, after serving in the Army Air Corp. in WWII. He graduated with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. He was married to Bernice Ferguson on July 12,1952. He was a devoted husband and father, and enjoyed traveling with his wife after retirement.
He spent the bulk of his career working as a Senior Development Engineer for Western Electric/AT&T/ Lucent Technology until his retirement in 1987. He was a gifted engineer and inventor . He was awarded two patents for his design of cable telecommunication equipment. He was a proud veteran who never tired of talking about his experiences working on P47 fighter planes in the war.
He is preceded in death by his wife Bernice Scheidt, and his Grandson Kevin Scheidt. He is survived by his children: Beth Standard, Tom Scheidt and Dan Scheidt. His grandchildren: Lori Wiggleton, Aimee Bennett, Jesse Burdette, Kayley Scheidt, Brittany Knight, Justin Scheidt, and Wesley Scheidt. His 10 Great Grandchildren: Austyn Bennett, Ryder Scheidt, Joanie Phillabaum, James, Jocelyn and Juliette Knight, Gavin Scheidt, Henry, Finn, and Rosie Scheidt
The Public Funeral will be held in his memory on Sunday November 7, from 3-5 pm at Fischer Funeral Care, 3742 Chamblee-Dunwoody Rd, Atlanta, Ga 30341.
His ashes will be interred at the Georgia National Cemetery, 1080 Veterans Cemetery Road, Canton, GA 30114.
