George "Joji" Kaneiwa Obituary

George "Joji" Kaneiwa, age 74, passed away on January 30th, 2026 in Atlanta, Georgia.

Born on September 10th, 1951 in Osaka, Japan, George lived a life marked by integrity, hard work, and a deep appreciation for the simple pleasures of life.

George (known at the time as "Joji") was the first born of his parents - Takako (mother) and Noboru (father). He was the oldest of his two brothers - Jun and Ryo.

George's father, Noboru, decided to come to the U.S. to further his career. Ultimately, George decided at just 16 years of age to stay in the U.S. while his family returned to Japan.

George built a respected career in Atlanta's hospitality and automotive industries, as well as many other career paths due to his incredible drive. For many years, he served as a manager at Nakato's Japanese Restaurant, where his leadership and dedication left a lasting impression on colleagues and patrons alike. Later, he transitioned into automotive sales and quickly distinguished himself as a top salesman at both World Toyota and Mercedes Benz of Buckhead. His success was rooted not only in his work ethic but also in his honest and straightforward approach - qualities that earned him the trust of customers and coworkers throughout his career.

Outside of work, George found joy in the everyday moments that brought people together. He was a regular at Mr. Cue's pool hall, where he enjoyed playing pool and sharing stories with friends. A lover of cinema and cooking, George appreciated good films and good food with equal enthusiasm. His passion for cars extended beyond his professional life into a personal interest that reflected his appreciation for craftsmanship and care.

George was known for his quick wit and wisdom —traits that made him both an engaging storyteller and a thoughtful listener. He believed in taking care of things so they would last — a philosophy he applied not only to objects but also to relationships. His minimalist lifestyle reflected his belief that happiness could be found in simplicity rather than excess.

He was a beloved father to David McCluskey-Kaneiwa and Michael Kaneiwa, who carry forward his values and memory. He is also remembered by his brothers Jun Kaneiwa and Ryo Kaneiwa. Although not blood related, Vivian and Michael Masters were also considered his own children in George's eyes. He also was a dear friend to Masako Takeda and loved her daughter Sakura. George was preceded in death by his parents, Takako Kaneiwa and Noboru Kaneiwa.

George "Joji" Kaneiwa touched many lives with his honesty, humor, and quiet strength. May his memory bring comfort to those who knew him. A Memorial Gathering will be held on March 27th, 2026 from 05:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Fischer Funeral Care 3742 Chamblee Dunwoody Rd. 30341.
