George Ronald Fannon, III

George Ronald “Ron” Fannon III
7/21/1945 – 7/30/2026
 

Born in Youngstown, Ohio Ron was the oldest surviving child of George R. Fannon, Jr. and Dorothy Whelan Fannon.  The family moved to Atlanta in 1958.  He graduated from St. Pius X Catholic High School in 1963 and Oglethorpe University in 1971.

He was proceeded in death by his parents, infant siblings Margaret Eileen and Timothy. His brother Lawrence “Larry” Fannon passed away in 2021.

Ron and his beloved wife, Linda, were married for almost 57 years at the time of his passing.  He is also survived by their son, George and daughter, Eileen; siblings Margaret Mary Fannon, Jane (Roy) LeFever, Robert (Charlotte) Fannon, Michael (Paula) Fannon, Thomas (Stacey) Fannon, Charles (Lisa) Fannon; sister-in-law Kim Fannon; grandson Travis Fannon; as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

For over 21 years, Ron served proudly in the Georgia Air National Guard where he developed a lifelong interest in maps.  He was well known for always having a map book with him in the days before GPS was widely available.  

Ron made his career in the plumbing wholesale industry.  The only thing he liked to talk about more than plumbing was cars.  Not only was he an aficionado of all cars,  he greatly enjoyed NASCAR and professional drag racing. 

He was an active member of Our Lady of the Assumption Church since his family’s arrival in Atlanta and throughout the rest of his life with Linda.  Service was at the heart of who Ron was.  He severed his church, alumni groups, and the neighborhood swim and tennis club in various ways.  After his retirement, he was busy organizing reunion events for his classmates and National Guard groups. He enjoyed volunteering at running events, including one on the Daytona Speedway! 

People knew they could count on Ron.  He was always willing to help; plumbing projects, car rides, and in many other ways.  To say he will be missed is an understatement.  We are grateful his battle with Alzheimer’s ended as smoothly as possible.  He is in a much better place and will continue to look after us.

A funeral mass with be held at Our Lady of the Assumption Church, August 11th at 11 AM.  1350 Hearst Drive, Brookhaven, GA, 30319.
