David Burns Obituary

David Charles Patrick Burns, of Atlanta, Georgia, passed away of natural causes suddenly and unexpectedly at his home on August 8th, 2025, at the age of 65 years. He was born March 30th, 1960, in Toronto, Canada.

Dave graduated from the University of Colorado, Boulder, where he attended with his life-long great friend Steve Youngquist. Burnsy, as most people knew him, went on to earn his master’s degree of business administration at Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Texas, where he worked for a number of years before moving to Atlanta in the early 1990s to further his career in business-to -business technological sales and service. Dave earned numerous sales awards throughout his career. He made Atlanta his home for the last half of his life, where he made a loving close-knit group of friends who became a second family to him, especially Erica Collins, Dan and Debra Hogan, Bob Schwartz, and Steven Webreck.

Like his father, Dave was an excellent athlete, enjoying tennis, squash, water-skiing, snow skiing, and golf. He loved reading, was the ultimate clothes horse and excelled at making nicknames for loved ones. He also enjoyed being a godfather to niece Abigail, (of Dean and Danielle Burns), and Maren, (of Steve Youngquist and Kristi, Jack and Lara).

Dave leaves behind him a large and extended family that will miss him dearly.

He is predeceased by his father Patrick John Peter Burns. He is survived by his mother Melba Burns, his brother Randin John Burns, (Josiane Dumas, Ocean Blue, (Brian Hutton and Wyatt), Patrick, and Alana de la Torre), and his sister Donna Marie Burns, (Harry Schepers). Dave is survived by his stepmother Adrian Burns, (Greg Kane), his brothers Patrick Dean Burns, (Danielle, Maren and Abigail), and Matthew Solomon Burns, (Rachael Watson and Matt’s son Gavin). He is also survived by his step siblings Christina Burns, (Madison, Maddox and Mack), and Blake Burns, (Leonie MacMillan and Solomon).

A service to celebrate David’s life will be held at Fischer Funeral Care at 3742 Chamblee Dunwoody Rd., Atlanta, Georgia on Monday, August 25th at 10am.

In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the Salvation Army, a charity near and dear to David’s heart where he often volunteered serving meals to the less fortunate.
