Our beloved mother and grandmother, Charlene Dorothy Burgun Henry, 83, passed away peacefully on February 4, 2026, in Decatur, Georgia.
Charlene was born in 1942 in Atlanta, Georgia to Charles W. Burgun and Marguerite Sapp. She grew up in West Palm Beach, Florida and graduated from Palm Beach High School in 1960. In 1964, she graduated from Florida State University with a bachelor’s degree in education. She was a dedicated educator, teaching kindergarten and first grade, both in Tallahassee, Florida and Dallas, Georgia. She loved children’s literature and teaching young children to read. Some of her favorite books were If You Give a Mouse a Cookie, Charlotte’s Web, and Be Nice to Spiders.
Charlene’s happiest times were when she was spending time with family, cooking, and enjoying a cold Coca-Cola. She was an amazing cook who made the best macaroni and cheese and chocolate chess pie. She took great delight in gathering with family for holiday meals. Her greatest joys in life were her three children and four grandchildren, of whom she was very proud.
Charlene is survived by her children: John C. Borden IV and daughter-in-law Lisa Borden, Anne L. Borden, Mary Grace Henry; and her four grandchildren Abigail “Abby” Borden, Jackson Borden, Emilio Fromow Henry and Isaac Fromow Henry.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library. Donations can be made online at https://donate.imaginationlibrary.com/.
