With hearts full of love and gratitude, we celebrate the beautiful life of Beverly Karen Ramsey, a devoted mother, cherished grandmother, beloved daughter, sister, faithful friend, educator, and woman of unwavering grace. On July 15, 2026, surrounded by the love of her daughters, Terrin and Camille, Beverly peacefully entered into the presence of the Lord—just one day after celebrating her 73rd birthday.

Born on July 14, 1953, in Toledo, Ohio, to Wilmer and Rosalie Stewart, Beverly was raised in a loving family whose values helped shape the remarkable woman she became. She shared a special bond with her brothers and sisters: Debra Neal, Diane Green (Johnny), Myron Stewart (Sandra), Gary Stewart (Karen), Dwight Stewart, Chris Stewart (Kim), Robert Stewart, and George Stewart. She also leaves behind a host of beloved nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends whose lives were enriched by her love, kindness, and unwavering encouragement. Together they shared a lifetime of memories that reflected the strength of family, enduring love, and lifelong connection. From an early age, Beverly embraced the values of kindness, perseverance, faith, and compassion that would define her life. She lived with elegance, purpose, and quiet strength, leaving an enduring legacy of faith, education, service, and unconditional love for others.

Beverly’s greatest joy was her family. She was the proud and devoted mother of Charles Lightner, Terrin Ramsey-Omonua, and her son-in-love, Lawrence Omonua, and Camille Ramsey. She was an adoring grandmother to Chaneice Lightner, Charles Jr. Lightner, Charnayla Lightner, and Titan Lightner, each of whom brought immeasurable joy to her life. Whether sharing laughter around the dinner table, talking on the phone, cheering on her grandchildren, or simply enjoying meaningful conversations, Beverly treasured every moment spent with those she loved.

To Us, She Was Mom…

To us, she was more than our mother—she was one of our greatest supporters, our safe place, and one of life’s most enduring examples of strength and resilience. She believed in us long before we believed in ourselves, celebrating our victories, encouraging our dreams, and gently reminding us that we were capable of more than we often imagined. After surviving a stroke nearly 18 years ago, Mom showed us what perseverance truly looked like. She faced life’s challenges with courage, determination, and grace, teaching us that resilience is not measured by what happens to us, but by how we choose to rise after every setback. She also taught us to embrace adventure. From living in multiple states to creating new experiences along the way, Mom welcomed each chapter of life with curiosity and an open heart. She reminded us that life was meant to be experienced, not simply observed.

More than anything, she was a judgment-free listening ear. No matter the circumstance, she created a space where we felt heard, accepted, and loved. We could always call her to celebrate life’s joys, navigate its disappointments, or simply hear a familiar voice that made everything seem a little better. One of life’s greatest privileges was being able to care for our mother during the seasons when she could no longer fully care for herself. The role reversal between children and aging parents is never easy, but it became one of our greatest gifts. Thank you, Mom, for trusting us, for allowing us to love you in the same selfless ways you loved us throughout our lives. Caring for you was never a burden—it was an honor, a privilege, and one of the purest expressions of our gratitude.

Your love shaped us. Your strength inspired us. Your faith grounded us. Your resilience strengthened us. And your legacy will continue to live on through each of us, every single day. For more than 40 years, Beverly shared a remarkable lifelong friendship with her beloved former husband, Terry Ramsey. Though their paths evolved over the years, their bond remained rooted in mutual respect, love, and friendship. Their conversations were filled with childlike banter, laughter, and playful exchanges that reflected a connection built over decades and a friendship that never faded.

Beverly embraced life with enthusiasm and gratitude. She loved traveling, savoring delicious meals followed by something sweet, dancing to good music, spending quality time with family, and unwinding with her favorite television shows. If you ever received a phone call after she had watched a movie or discovered a new television series, you were in for an unforgettable recap. She shared every scene with such excitement, emotion, and detail that it felt as though she had written the script herself.

She possessed an unmistakable sense of style. Beverly was truly a fashionista. Whether attending a family gathering, making a trip to Walmart, or simply going to a doctor’s appointment, she was always beautifully put together. Earrings, sunglasses, and lipstick were never optional—they were simply part of who she was. She believed in presenting herself with confidence, dignity, and pride. Her eye for fashion extended beyond herself; she never hesitated to compliment a stranger whose outfit caught her attention. Beverly had a beautiful gift for making others feel seen, appreciated, and confident.

Education was one of Beverly’s greatest passions. She was a proud graduate of Lane College, a Historically Black College and University (HBCU) in Jackson, Tennessee. As a dedicated Special Education teacher, she devoted her career to nurturing, encouraging, and advocating for children with patience, compassion, and unwavering dedication. Beverly believed education opened doors, expanded opportunities, and empowered people to experience life to its fullest. Her commitment to higher education became part of her family’s legacy, inspiring both of her daughters to attend and graduate from HBCU's.

While attending Lane College, Beverly became a proud member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated®, Gamma Alpha Omega Chapter, embracing its lifelong commitment to scholarship, sisterhood, and service. Those principles remained evident throughout her life as she encouraged others, served her community with grace, and believed deeply in lifting others as she climbed.

One of Beverly’s greatest lessons was simple yet profound: “Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.” She didn’t simply speak those words—she lived them. Through her compassion, generosity, kindness, and genuine concern for others, she modeled the very values she hoped to instill in her children and grandchildren. She encouraged them to strive for excellence, extend grace, treat every person with dignity, and always represent themselves with integrity.

An avid reader with a sharp mind, quick wit, and a delightful sense of humor, Beverly had a way of bringing joy wherever she went. Her laughter was contagious, her conversations were memorable, and her presence brought comfort to those around her. She found beauty in everyday moments and reminded those she loved that life was meant to be fully lived—with faith, gratitude, style, laughter, and love.

Although our hearts grieve her physical absence, we rejoice in knowing that her faith has become sight. The love she poured into her family, the students whose lives she influenced, the friendships she cultivated, and the countless acts of kindness she extended to others remain as part of her enduring legacy. We will forever remember Beverly Karen Ramsey for her elegance, wisdom, compassion, resilience, infectious laughter, impeccable style, and unwavering love for her family. She taught us that kindness is never wasted, that education is a gift, that family is life’s greatest blessing, and that every day is an opportunity to leave someone better than you found them. Her life was a beautiful reminder that true beauty begins within, is reflected in how we treat others, and leaves an everlasting imprint on every heart it touches.

If You Knew Our Mom…

If you knew our Mom, you knew she wasn’t leaving the house without her earrings, lipstick, and sunglasses. Looking her best wasn’t about impressing anyone—it was simply who she was. She carried herself with confidence, grace, and style wherever she went. You knew she’d notice your new outfit before you even had the chance to say hello. She never missed an opportunity to compliment someone and make them feel beautiful because she believed kindness was one of the greatest accessories a person could wear.

You also knew that if she was comfortably settled into her recliner, she’d smile and call out with perfect timing, asking someone to bring her a refill of ginger ale, turn on the fan, and hand her her bracelets—all in one breath. It always made us laugh because Mom knew exactly what she wanted and exactly how she wanted to look.

If you were one of her grandchildren, you probably remember the unexpected gifts that would arrive in the mail “just because.” She didn’t need a birthday or holiday to remind you that you were loved. Those thoughtful surprises were her way of saying, “I’m thinking about you,” even from miles away.

And if you were fortunate enough to be loved by our Mom, you knew you always had someone in your corner. She was only a phone call away—as long as one of her favorite shows wasn’t on. And even then, she’d probably call you back as soon as the credits rolled, ready to tell you all about the episode with so much enthusiasm that you’d think she had written the script herself. That was our Mom. She loved deeply, laughed often, dressed beautifully, gave generously, and made people feel special simply by being herself.

As we celebrate Beverly’s extraordinary life, we choose gratitude over sorrow, remembering not only how she left this world, but how beautifully she lived in it. Though we will miss hearing her laughter, receiving her thoughtful phone calls, and watching her light up a room with her smile and unmistakable style, we find comfort in knowing that love like hers never truly leaves us. It lives on in every lesson she taught, every memory she created, every act of kindness inspired by her example, and every life she touched.

Until we meet again, we will carry your love in our hearts, your wisdom in our decisions, your laughter in our memories, and your legacy in the way we treat one another.
