It is with deep sadness that we share the news of the passing of Benjamin Allen Thomas, the beloved son of Maria and Richard. Ben died on Thursday, February 12, after being struck by a car while doing one of the things he loved most — going for a walk.
Ben was 22 years old. Many of us at OLA remember the joy surrounding his birth and the bright, energetic child whose presence was felt throughout our campus. He was a dedicated Boy Scout, an altar server, and a teen leader in our youth ministry program, where he shared thoughtful and insightful reflections on faith with his peers. Ben also generously gave his time volunteering with St. Vincent de Paul in Chamblee.
His education took him out west for several years before he recently returned home to be with his family. Ben will be remembered for his kindness and the warmth he brought to all who knew him. Ben's favorite place was Silver Lake where he would spend his free time exploring. He will be laid to rest in our parish columbarium, not far from the place he loved.
Father John Ulrich, SM, will celebrate the Mass of the Resurrection for Ben on Friday, February 20, at 10am at Our Lady of the Assumption. The family will receive friends beginning at 9:15am.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to St. Vincent de Paul or NAMI of Georgia. You may also consider offering Masses for him.
Please continue to pray for Ben’s parents, Maria and Richard; his brothers, Seb and Abe; his sister, Mariana; and all extended family members and friends who mourn his passing.
